Serving generation after generation

| S VENKATESHWARAN |

It is not enough to say that Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri has served the Nanganallur community as Homeopathy doctor for nearly 40 years: we must add that in some cases he has seen three generations of patients from the same family. That by itself speaks volumes for his skill and expertise in the field of Homeopathy.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri was born in 1963 in Tiruvottriyur. He did his early schooling at a municipal school in north Madras and completed his higher secondary education at Vellaiyan Chettiyar Higher Secondary School under the AMM Charities.

Initially, he joined B.Sc. Chemistry at Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi, but later shifted his focus to medicine.

He got admission to the Government Homeopathy Medical College, then located inside Kilpauk Medical College. During his course, the college shifted to Madurai. He graduated in 1986 and immediately began his medical practice.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri’s journey into Homeopathy was not planned. During his teenage years, he cared for his sick grandmother, who had bedsores, but he never imagined becoming a doctor. In fact, he had passed the Railway Service Commission exam for Assistant Station Master, securing 3rd rank. However, he chose to pursue Homeopathy due to his father’s advice and blessings.

His father, Mr. Seshadri, was an amateur Homeopathy practitioner who believed in his son’s potential.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri first started his clinic in 1986 in a rented place on 3rd Main Road, Nanganallur, through a relative’s reference. Later, he moved to 37th Street Extension, where he continues to practise.

He settled permanently in Nanganallur with his wife, Mrs. Jeyanthi, in 2002, after building their own house.

Mrs. Jeyanthi was a teacher by profession but gave up her job after childbirth to support the family and his practice. Though not a doctor, she learned a lot about Homeopathy and helped in the clinic. The family also runs a direct marketing business, which has helped them stay financially stable and focus on service rather than income.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri proudly says, “Not everyone can become a doctor. I believe this was God’s plan and my father’s wish. I am blessed, just like in M.S. Subbulakshmi’s song, ‘Kurai Ondrum Illai Maraimurthy Kanna’ – I have no complaints.”

His son, Atul Seshadri, is pursuing a PhD in Energy Storing Systems in Spain. His daughter, Padmashri, completed her Visual Communication degree and is working in the field of digital marketing media.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri recalls that in the early days, most of his patients were children afraid of swallowing allopathy tablets. They came for fever and cold, and treating them within three days was a challenge. Today, those same children are grandparents who still trust his treatment and bring their families.

Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri explains that Homeopathy is very effective for inflammation, chronic pain and autoimmune disorders. “I am not against Allopathy. Some conditions and surgeries need it. In such cases, I refer them to Allopathic doctors,” he said.

He also mentioned that many Allopathic doctors now refer patients to him, especially for preventive care and lifestyle-based treatment.

Apart from his private clinic, Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri also runs charity clinics in MRC Nagar on select days, showing his strong commitment to service.

When asked for advice to the younger generation, he smiled and said, “Don’t Google everything. It causes unnecessary stress and anxiety. Trust your doctor and your body.”

With nearly four decades of service, Dr. Ramanuja Seshadri remains a respected and humble figure in Nanganallur – a true symbol of dedication, compassion and pride for the community.
