Learn all about MTC buses at touch of a button

| S VENKATESHWARAN |

Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has introduced a new mobile application called ‘Madras Bus’, which is very useful for the public. The app can be downloaded from the Google PlayStore and is currently available only for Android users.

The app is named ‘Chennai Perundu’ and supports Tamil and English languages. Through this app, passengers can see the live location of 3,233 MTC buses running on 602 routes and stopping at 6,026 bus stops.

It also shows the estimated arrival time of buses and helps users find the nearest bus stops from any location in the city.

The app also includes a safety feature for emergencies. In case of danger, passengers can send SOS alerts to their saved contacts or to the police using the app. The SOS button sends a message to the selected contact numbers.

To avoid false complaints, the system includes a verification process. As a first step, the driver or conductor will verify the complaint at the spot.

This new app is expected to make bus travel in Chennai more easy, safe and convenient for the public.
