The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour by
the Lakshmi Nagar Civic Welfare Association and Voltas
Colony Welfare Association.
At Lakshmi Nagar, association president, Mr. T.
Ayyamperumal, welcomed the gathering and requested Mr. N.
Chandran, Alandur zonal chairman (zone 12), to unfurl the
national flag.
The event was held in the presence of Mrs. Durgadevi
Natarajan, 167th ward Councillor, and Mr. J. Natarajan, ward
secretary.
Later, a second national flag unfurling event was held at 1st
Park, Voltas Colony. The flag was again unfurled by Mr. N.
Chandran, in the presence of Mrs. Durgadevi Natarajan, Mr. J.
Natarajan, Mr. V.V. Kumaravelu, secretary of the Federation of
Nanganallur Welfare Associations, and Mr. V. Rama Rao,

On the occasion, Mr. Rama Rao explained the importance of
the day and highlighted the difference between Independence
Day and Republic Day. He said on Independence Day, the
national flag is hoisted from the bottom to the top, showing
India’s journey to freedom. On Republic Day, the flag is already
at the top and is unfurled, symbolising the strength of the Indian
Constitution and the Republic.
All arrangements for the programme were made by Mr. G.
Raveendran, secretary. Mr. A.K. Narayanan proposed a vote of
thanks.
The celebrations at Lakshmi Nagar and Voltas Colony were
held in a spirit of unity and patriotism.
