Neighborhood Speaks

As per Greater Chennai Corporation’s (GCC’s) recent initiative,
in Nanganallur, new steel benches have been installed on 6th
Main Road, 5th Main Road, and in many other places where
there is more space for pedestrians. These benches are placed
along the roadsides to help walkers and senior citizens sit and
relax.
Many senior citizens in the area have appreciated this
thoughtful step. They said during their morning and evening
walks, it is very helpful to sit for a few minutes, take rest, and
then continue their walk comfortably.
Some residents also shared that a few benches have been
installed near their houses and apartment entrances. Mrs.
Sharmila, a resident of Nanganallur, said these benches will
help parents and grandparents spend valuable time with their
children during playtime. They can sit comfortably and watch
their children while they are playing or riding their bicycles.
Mr. Anandan, a senior citizen who walks regularly near Adyar
Ananda Bhavan, said the benches are very useful, especially
for elders who need short breaks during their walk.
This initiative is continuing across the area. In some places,
only the steel base of the bench has been installed, and the
remaining portions will soon be fixed. Once completed, the full
steel bench will give a neat and complete look to the streets.

As mentioned earlier, view cutters placed around transformers
were also painted recently. With fresh paint and bright colours,
these structures now look clean, attractive, and stunning.
Together with the newly-installed benches, these improvements
have made the area look brighter and more pleasant for
residents and visitors.
Residents have welcomed the move and feel that it adds
comfort and care to the neighbourhood.
