Leg up for women sanitation staff

On March 8, 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s
Day, the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite under Rotary
International District 3234 organised a special community
service programme at the Skating Ground at 100 Feet Road in
Nanganallur.
During the programme, footwear was distributed to 109 women
sanitation workers of Greater Chennai Corporation as a mark of
appreciation for their dedicated service in keeping the city clean
and healthy. The initiative aimed to support these frontline
workers by providing comfortable and protective footwear for
their daily work.
The event was attended by zone 12 chairman, Mr. N.
Chandran, and ward 167 secretary, Mr. Natarajan. MR.
Chandran appreciated the club for organising such a thoughtful
programme and for recognising the valuable service of
sanitation workers.
The club members said the project was a small gesture of
gratitude towards the women sanitation workers who work
tirelessly, often in difficult conditions, to maintain a clean city.
The initiative also reflects Rotary’s commitment to community
service and women’s empowerment, they said.
Club president, Mr. V.S. Gopalakrishnan, thanked all the
members and donors who supported the project. Mr.
Sowrirajan, chairman – Community Service Development, was
appreciated for his efforts in organising the programme.
The project was originally proposed by Mr. Kannan, charter
president, and the club also appreciated the efforts of past

president Sivakumar, chairman – Public Image, for coordinating
the event.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of the
club president and club secretary, Mr. Meena Sathish, along
with the active participation of club members, Anns and
Annettes of the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite.
The event served as a tribute to the dedication and hard work
of women sanitation workers and highlighted the club’s mission
to serve the community through meaningful initiatives.
