Sewage pipe replacement work on 1st Main Road in
Nanganallur, taken up by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC),
is continuing in phases.
In the previous week, a portion of 1st Main Road and near 2nd
Main Road and 17th Street was blocked due to major pipe
replacement and connection works, causing traffic diversions
and inconvenience to residents.
Now, the earlier completed 1st Main Road portion has been
opened, and the work has moved further ahead. At present, the
stretch from Rela Clinic up to Bharath Hospital is under full-
scale work on 1st Main Road.
Due to the ongoing digging and pipe-laying activities, the road
condition has become very difficult for movement. Only two-
wheelers are being allowed in some parts, but even they face
disruption because of mud, uneven surfaces and the presence
of earthmovers on the road.
To manage traffic, commuters from Vanuvampet heading
towards 1st Main Road are being advised to take an alternative
route. They can travel via Ramnagar 1st Main Road, then
proceed through Ramnagar 2nd Main Road, and further via the
Sydney Hospital route to reach 2nd Main Road, Nanganallur.
From there, they can access 1st Main Road.
Residents have noted that such civic works have been carried
out in phases in the past as well, aimed at improving sewage
infrastructure and preventing future issues. While the current
work is causing temporary inconvenience, many people have
expressed patience, understanding that the project will benefit
the locality in the long run.
