A meaningful social service event was organised Sunday,
March 22, 2026, by the AIBSNLPWA-WIN Chengalpattu District
Association at Medavakkam, Chennai, to support SOUL
Palliative Care, a charitable healthcare organisation.
During the event, a contribution of Rs. 67,502, collected from
members of the Pensioners Welfare Association, was handed
over to support the organisation.
The gathering highlighted the importance of palliative care,
which focuses on reducing pain and mental stress for patients
suffering from cancer, organ failure and other life-threatening
illnesses, especially among economically weaker sections.
All India president, Mr. D. Gopalakrishnan, explained that
palliative care not only treats symptoms but also improves the
quality of life through pain relief, emotional support and home-
based medical services, including doctors and nurses. He
appreciated SOUL Palliative Care for its dedication to
humanitarian service.
The organisation, founded by Ms. Preetha Mahesh in 2018, has
been serving patients across four districts in Tamil Nadu and
has supported around 2,000 beneficiaries in nearly 30 villages
around Chennai.
On the occasion of World Water Day, the importance of water
conservation was also emphasised.
From Nanganallur, Mr. V. Rama Rao, a respected social worker
and state advisor, celebrated his 85th birthday at the event. His
long-standing contributions to society were recognised, and he
was warmly greeted by all attendees.
State president, Mr. R. Venkatachalam, praised the efforts of
SOUL Palliative Care, stating that such organisations keep
humanity alive in society.
The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony for Mr. Rama
Rao and young Malarvathi, granddaughter of Mr. Killi Valavan
who donated an oxygen concentrator to the organisation.
