The Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations has
welcomed the new initiative announced by Electricity Minister,
Mr. C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, to improve power outage response
and restoration services across Chennai and the suburban
areas.
Reacting to the announcement, the federation said the scheme
was a positive step towards addressing frequent power
interruptions and ensuring faster restoration of electricity
supply. The launch of additional patrol vehicles and special
monitoring teams is expected to strengthen the Electricity
Department’s ability to attend to faults and repair works
promptly.
Speaking on the initiative, federation advisor, Mr. V. Rama Rao,
said, “We welcome this scheme and hope it will help reduce the
number of power-related complaints and ensure early
restoration during outages. However, there is no contact
number provided for the public to directly communicate with
these teams. If the arrangement remains only as an inter-
departmental mechanism, it may not fully achieve its intended
purpose. Information and feedback from residents, who are the
actual stakeholders, would greatly help in identifying faults and
speeding up restoration work.”
The federation expressed hope that the Electricity Department
would also consider creating a public communication channel
so that residents can easily report outages and receive timely
updates on restoration efforts.
The federation said it will closely observe the implementation of
the scheme and its effectiveness in improving power supply
reliability in Nanganallur and the surrounding areas.
