The residents of Nanganallur and the surrounding areas have
been facing frequent power outages, especially at night, over
the past month. The recurring interruptions have caused
inconvenience to families, particularly children and senior
citizens.
In an effort to address the issue, office-bearers of the
Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations met the
divisional engineer (AD), Mr. Kalidoss, at his office on Monday
June 8, 2026.
The meeting was arranged as an urgent appointment to
discuss the growing concerns of residents regarding the
unstable power supply.
During the meeting, the federation representatives explained
the difficulties being faced by the public due to the repeated
power failures. Mr. Kalidoss patiently heard their concerns and
provided a detailed explanation about the current power
situation in the area.
According to the official, there are presently 225 transformers
serving Nanganallur, and the electricity department is in the
process of commissioning four additional transformers to
strengthen the power distribution network.
He also informed the delegation that a new feeder at Raghava
Nagar is nearing completion and is expected to become
operational within the next 10 days. This additional feeder will
support the existing power infrastructure and help reduce the
load on the system.
The official further stated that the number of electricity
consumers in the area has increased significantly and currently
stands at 27,653. He explained that the frequent power
interruptions are mainly due to overloading of the existing
network and expressed confidence that the situation will
improve once the new feeder is commissioned.
Mr. Kalidoss assured the federation members that every effort
would be made to prevent power outages at night, unless there
is a major technical fault or emergency.
The federation representatives thanked the divisional engineer
for spending nearly an hour with them and for providing clarity
on the issue. They also expressed hope that the measures
being taken by the electricity department will soon bring relief to
the residents.
Mr. Inbasekaran conveyed the federation’s appreciation for the
prompt response and assurance given by the department in
addressing the concerns of the public.
