The annual, Sri Maha Chandi Yagam, was conducted at Sri
Uttara Guruvayoorappan Temple, Ram Nagar, Nanganallur, on
August 6 (Thursday evening) and August 7 (Friday morning).
A large number of devotees from Nanganallur and the
neighbouring areas attended the 2-day spiritual programme
and participated in the rituals to receive the blessings of Sri
Chandika Devi.
The sacred Maha Chandi Yagam was performed according to
Vedic traditions by experienced priests. One of the special
features of this year’s Yagam was the offering of costly silk
sarees into the sacred fire during every avarthi, as a special
offering to Goddess Chandika.
Special spices and grains were also given to the devotees.
They carried the offerings around the homam in pradakshina
and later offered them into the sacred fire. This enabled the
devotees to actively participate in the sacred Yagam.
The maha purnahuthi was performed in a grand manner at the
conclusion of the homam, with a special silk saree and other
sacred offerings being dedicated into the homam. The entire
ceremony was filled with Vedic chanting and devotional fervour,
creating a divine atmosphere in the temple.
Following the completion of the Maha Chandi Yagam, the
kamba purappadu was conducted, followed by the kalasa
abhishekam.
The kalasam used during the Yagam held special significance
as it was an important part of the sacred homam. After the
conclusion of the homam, the kalasam was brought out as part
of the kamba purappadu and the abhishekam was performed to
the Bhagavathy Amman shrine in the temple with great
devotion.
The large participation of devotees and the elaborate rituals,
including the Maha Chandi Yagam, purnahuthi, kamba
purappadu and kalasa abhishekam, made the annual
celebrations a grand and memorable spiritual event at Sri
Uttara Guruvayoorappan Temple.
