Twin celebration on Aadi Friday

Nanganallur witnessed a festive and devotional atmosphere on
August 21, 2026, as devotees celebrated Aadi Velli and
Varalakshmi nonbu. The local markets saw heavy crowds from
Thursday evening and continued to remain busy from the early
hours of Friday.
The streets were lined with thoranam shops, flower vendors,
fruit sellers, and stalls selling various pooja items. Many
residents started purchasing flowers, fruits and other offerings
from Thursday to prepare for the Varalakshmi nonbu poojas to
be conducted in their homes.
Several temples in and around Nanganallur were filled with
devotees throughout the day.
At Sri Vembuliyamman Temple, many devotees prepared
pongal within the temple premises as part of the traditional
celebrations.
Special poojas were also conducted at Sri Rajarajeshwari
Ashram, Sri Devi Karumari Amman Temple, Sri
Ardhanareeswarar Temple, and many other temples in the
neighbourhood.
A large number of devotees gathered to offer prayers and seek
the blessings of the Goddess. The temples and surrounding
areas echoed with devotional chants and religious activities,
creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Families, especially women observing Varalakshmi nonbu,
participated in the rituals with great faith and enthusiasm.
