The spirit of Krishna jayanthi has already filled the streets of
Nanganallur as residents prepare for the auspicious celebration
on September 4. Though some days remain for the festival, the
local markets have already become busy with festive
purchases.
On 2nd Main Road, Ramnagar, near Anjaneyar Temple,
Nanganallur 4th Main Road, 2nd Main Road and 1st Main
Road, several shops have displayed colourful idols of Lord
Krishna. Residents can be seen stopping at the shops to select
Krishna idols, flowers and other festive items to welcome the
Lord into their homes.
The arrival of Krishna idols in the market has itself become a
reminder for many families that Krishna jayanthi is approaching.
Along with idols, residents have started ordering traditional
sweets and savouries, popularly known as bakshanam, for the
celebration.
“Whenever Krishna idols come to the shops, they remind us
that Krishna jayanthi is nearing. We then start planning for the
festival and prepare bakshanam at home. We have a
grandchild at home,” said Mrs. Vasanthi, a resident of the area.
As the evening approaches, the festive atmosphere becomes
livelier. Shops are decorated with colourful displays, while the
fragrance of fresh flowers and sweets adds to the celebrative
mood. Families are seen making their purchases and preparing
to observe the festival with devotion and happiness.
With the festival still a few days away, Nanganallur is already
wearing a festive look, with colourful Krishna idols, traditional
preparations creating the perfect atmosphere for welcoming
Lord Krishna.
