Nanganallur was filled with festive joy as residents celebrated Pongal with great enthusiasm. The market area wore a special festive look, drawing people from all walks of life to take part in the harvest celebrations.
The market was full of thoranam, fresh flowers, sugarcane, fruits and vegetables on account of Pongal. Shops also displayed traditional items such as mud pots, ginger shoots, and turmeric shoots.
The streets looked bright and colourful, reflecting the deep cultural connection of the local community.
Flower vendors and sugarcane sellers were busy throughout the day, adding to the festive charm.
On Bhogi day, staff members of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital along 1st Main Road celebrated Pongal in advance by preparing pongal together in a mud pot with rangoli kolam and sugarcane decorations outside the hospital. Everyone wore traditional dress and conveyed warm Pongal wishes to everyone, enhancing the joyful atmosphere.
Scenes captured on Pongal day beautifully highlighted the rich traditions and close-knit community spirit of Nanganallur. Residents were seen shopping, celebrating and spending time together, showing the strong cultural importance of Pongal and reaffirming Nanganallur’s identity as a vibrant temple town of Chennai.
