Nanganallur mourns the passing of veteran nama
sankeerthanam exponent, Sri Ramamoorthy, fondly known as
‘Jalra Ramamoorthy’. He passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026,
leaving devotees and residents deeply saddened.
Sri Ramamoorthy was affectionately blessed with the title ‘Jalra
Ramamoorthy’ by Kanchi Sri Mahaperiyava, a recognition that
remained closely associated with him throughout his life.
His journey in nama sankeerthanam began over 55 years ago,
while he was serving at Jain College. Through his continuous
devotion and dedication, he inspired countless people in and
around Nanganallur to embrace the path of bhakti and
participate in nama sankeerthanam.
He was widely respected for treating every Bhagavathar
equally, without any distinction of age or status, believing that
all devotees are equal in the service of God.
His gentle speech, compassionate nature, honesty in action,
clarity of thought, and integrity in his profession earned him the
admiration and affection of everyone who knew him.
His passing is not only an irreparable loss to his family but also
to the entire Nanganallur community and the large number of
devotees whose lives he touched through his lifelong service to
nama sankeerthanam.

His contribution to preserving and spreading devotional music
and bhakti will always be remembered with gratitude.
