Even as the summer sun beats down on Nanganallur, nature
has painted the neighbourhood in bright and cheerful shades of
yellow. The streets are now lined with blooming laburnum
(golden shower) trees, their flowers falling gently and spreading
across the roads like golden carpets. For passersby, it feels like
walking through glowing pathways, a rare and refreshing sight
in the peak of summer.
These vibrant yellow blossoms have reminded many residents
of the famous ‘Vishu poo’ flowers seen during the Vishu festival
in Kerala. In several parts of Nanganallur, the flowers have
transformed ordinary streets into scenes of quiet beauty,
offering a pleasant contrast to the harsh heat.
This week, many readers shared photographs capturing these
charming moments of summer.
One of our readers, Mr. R.V. Ramanujam from Ramnagar,
shows a tree that has completely shed its leaves. Standing
bare against the sky, it gives the surprising impression of
autumn, right in the middle of a hot summer. The image has
caught the attention of many for its unusual and artistic feel.
The response from the community has been overwhelming,
with residents expressing their admiration for these seasonal
blooms. Each photograph reflects not just the beauty of the
flowers, but also the deep connection people feel with their
surroundings.
In nearby Madipakkam, too, Nature is putting up a lovely show.
A flowering tree planted by MSS Trust near Enfield Avenue is
now in full bloom, drawing the attention of locals. Volunteers
from the trust shared their hope that more such flowering trees
can be planted along Bazaar Road, from Kaiveli to UTI Bank.
With the support of residents and local authorities, they believe
the area could take on a vibrant, almost international look.
Adding to the charm of the season, mango trees across
Nanganallur, Madipakkam and Adambakkam are now heavy
with fruits. Laden with fresh mangoes, these trees stand as a
reminder of Nature’s generosity. In the midst of scorching heat,
they not only offer shade but also the joy of seasonal fruits.
As summer continues, these simple yet beautiful sights remind
us of the importance of trees in our lives. They cool our
surroundings, brighten our streets and nourish us in many
ways. Planting and protecting trees today is not just for our
benefit, but a gift for future generations as well.
