3-day jayanthi mahotsavam of Sri Mahaperiyava

The 133rd jayanthi mahotsavam of Jagadguru Sri
Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Mahaswamigal, lovingly
revered by millions as Sri Mahaperiyava, was celebrated with
great devotion, spiritual fervour at Sri Mahaperiyava
Sharanalayam, Nanganallur.
The 3-day mahotsavam saw the participation of more than
2,000 devotees who gathered to offer prayers and receive the
blessings of the revered Jagadguru.
The celebrations began Friday, May 29, 2026, with sacred
Vedic rituals performed by scholars.
Special Sri Narasimha homam, Maha Mrityunjaya homam, and
Sri Sudarshana homam were conducted for universal peace,
good health, prosperity and spiritual upliftment. Traditional
rituals such as dhampathi puja, Suhasini puja, Vadu puja, and
Kanya puja were performed, invoking the divine blessings of
Devi Kamakshi.
The mahotsavam featured continuous Veda parayanam,
devotional chanting, nama sankeerthanam, special pujas, and
visesha alankaram dedicated to Sri Mahaperiyava. Devotees

actively participated in these spiritual activities throughout the
celebrations.
A major attraction of the event was upanyasam by Erode Balaji
Bhagavathar. His discourse on the greatness and divine life of
Sri Mahaperiyava deeply moved the audience.
The celebrations were further enriched by a special musical
offering by Neyveli Santhanagopalan. His Carnatic music
concert, featuring devotional compositions and spiritual
reflections, received immense appreciation from devotees.
There was also a grand procession of the ther (car festival) of
Sri Mahaperiyava. The beautifully decorated chariot moved
through the streets accompanied by traditional pancha
vaadhiyam, Mallari rendered on nadhaswaram, Vedic chanting,
and chants of ‘Jaya Jaya Shankara, Hara Hara Shankara’.
During the Mahotsavam ‘Lunch for Re. 1 – Food for All’, an
initiative of Sri Mahaperiyava Arul Trust, was launched. The
noble annadhanam programme was inaugurated by Justice
G.R. Swaminathan in the presence of Sri G.R. Mama.
Nutritious meals were distributed to the underprivileged,
reflecting Sri Mahaperiyava’s message of compassion, service
and social responsibility.
