In a heart-warming step towards promoting education and
empowering young girls, the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite
launched a special girl child education sponsorship initiative
Sunday, June 14, 2026.
As part of its Literacy Avenue Project, the club has adopted an
orphan girl child and has committed to supporting her education
from LKG all the way to college. The initiative aims to provide
long-term educational support, guidance and encouragement to
help the child build a bright and independent future.
The project was carefully planned and implemented by Ms.
Sowmya Kannan, chairman – literacy. She carried out
extensive field work to identify a deserving beneficiary and
successfully coordinated the execution of the project.
Her dedicated efforts have created a life-changing opportunity
for the young girl.
The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of club
president, Mr. V.S. Gopalakrishnan, and club secretary, Ms.
Meena Sathish.
Speaking on the occasion, the club members said educating a
girl child was one of the most effective ways to strengthen
families and communities.
The project reflects Rotary’s motto, ‘Service Above Self’, and
highlights the club’s commitment to building a more educated
and inclusive society.
With the message, ‘Educate a girl child, empower a
generation’, the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite hopes to
inspire more people and organisations to support the education
of underprivileged children and help shape a better future for
them.
