Members of the Federation of Senior Citizen Associations of
Tamil Nadu (FOSCATAN) from Nanganallur will take part in a
nationwide programme on October 1, seeking the restoration of
railway fare concession for senior citizens.
The programme will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm at Swami
Sivananda Salai, Triplicane, following the call given by the All
India Senior Citizen Confederation, Mumbai, on account of
International Day of Older Persons.
The railway concession for senior citizens was withdrawn from
March 20, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the programme, a memorandum will also be
submitted to the railway authorities, requesting the restoration
of the earlier concession, which was available to senior
citizens.
The programme will feature a special address by Mr. D.
Gopalakrishnan, social activist and national president of the All
India BSNL Pensioners’ Welfare Association.
From Nanganallur, Mr. V. Rama Rao, president of FOSCATAN,
and Mr. S. Meenakshisundaram, secretary, are coordinating
the participation of senior citizen association members.
Van facility is being arranged for members travelling from
Nanganallur. Those who wish to use the facility may contact

will also be arranged at the respective Nanganallur pickup
points.
