The Federation of Senior Citizen Associations of Tamil Nadu,
Nanganallur, has submitted a letter to Chief Minister C. Joseph
Vijay, urging the government to start a free bus pass token
issuing centre for senior citizens at Nanganallur.
In the letter, federation president, Mr. V. Rama Rao, explained
that the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has closed
the free bus token issuing counter at the Alandur depot for the
July to December 2026 period. As a result, senior citizens have
now been asked to travel to either Chromepet or Velachery
depot to collect their free bus pass tokens.
The federation pointed out that this arrangement causes great
difficulty for elderly people, especially those above 60 years of
age, as they have to travel a long distance just to obtain the
tokens.
Mr. Rama Rao also mentioned that there was enough unused
space near the Hindu Colony bus stand in Nanganallur, which
could be used for setting up a token issuing counter.
Nanganallur has a large senior citizen population, the facility
would also benefit elderly residents from nearby areas such as
Adambakkam, Pazhavanthangal, Alandur, Madipakkam,
Moovarasanpet and Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam.
The federation has requested the government to appoint one
staff member at Nanganallur to issue the free bus pass tokens,
making the process easier and more convenient for senior
citizens.
