The Tamil Nadu state-level launch of the ‘10 Crore Addiction-
Free Pledge Mega Campaign’ was held in a grand manner at
Lok Bhavan, Chennai, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with
Governor, Mr. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, inaugurating the
campaign.
The programme witnessed a full hall of participants, including
Brahma Kumaris volunteers, government officials, social
organisations, students and members of the public, who
gathered in large numbers to support the noble initiative.
The campaign is being organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris
Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya as part of the nationwide
awareness movement under the Government of India’s Nasha
Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Addiction-Free India Campaign) and the
Mission SPANDAN initiative of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The nationwide campaign was inaugurated by Prime Minister
Modi in New Delhi August 2, and the Tamil Nadu launch
marked the beginning of the state-level public awareness
activities.
The Brahma Kumaris Nanganallur Sector jointly participated in
the campaign and invited devotees and members of the public
to take part in the national movement. During the function, all
participants took the addiction-free India pledge, promising to
stay away from all forms of substance abuse and to encourage
others to lead a healthy and value-based life.
The Governor appreciated the importance of creating
awareness among the younger generation and strengthening
society through positive values and responsible citizenship.
At the end of the programme, the Governor flagged off a grand
public awareness rally. Brahma Kumaris volunteers led the
procession carrying campaign flags and a ceremonial kalasam,
marking the beginning of the rally.
One of the major attractions was a specially-decorated
campaign vehicle carrying a large idol display with an
awareness presentation. Through background audio
messages, it portrayed the harmful effects of drug addiction
while conveying a powerful message encouraging people to
overcome addiction and lead a positive life.
The campaign aims to inspire 10 crore citizens across India to
take the addiction-free pledge and build a healthy, drug-free
and developed nation. Citizens are encouraged not only to
remain free from addiction but also to motivate at least five
others to take the pledge and spread awareness in their
communities.
