A cancer awareness programme was conducted by Swasthik Madhar Sangam, Voltas Colony, Nanganallur, Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the 1st Street Park. The programme was organised with the support of Rela Hospital, Chromepet, Rele Clinic in Nanganallur and received good response from the public.
The awareness session focused on women’s health and breast cancer awareness. The programme featured talks by Dr. V. Balasundaram, senior breast surgeon, and Dr. Swathi Prakash, senior breast surgeon and plastic surgeon, from Rela Hospital.
During the session, the doctors explained the importance of early detection of cancer, stating that early diagnosis can lead to complete cure. They also demonstrated self-examination methods and gave clear tips to help women understand the difference between a normal lump and a suspicious lump. The doctors strongly advised that any doubt should not be ignored and consultation with a doctor was necessary.
The doctors also stressed that women and men should take preventive steps. While women were advised to undergo periodic cancer screening at least once a year, men were also educated about early signs, self-awareness and preventive care related to lumps and cancers.
Several preventive tips, including maintaining a healthy lifestyle, regular check-ups and awareness of body changes, were shared. Many participants raised questions and doubts, which were patiently clarified by the doctors.
Residents from Lakshmi Nagar actively participated in the meeting. Office-bearers from the Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations were present.
The programme was presided over by Mrs. Sundari Kumaravelu, president, and Mrs. Sujatha Arun, secretary, Voltas Colony Swasthik Madhar Sangam.
