The entire stretch of 1st Main Road in Nanganallur has been
partially blocked as Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has
started sewage pipe replacement work.

Due to the ongoing work, traffic has been diverted in the area.
Vehicles going towards 4th Main Road are now being
redirected via 2nd Main Road and then taking a left on 17th
Street from there.
On 1st Main Road, major sewage pipe work and a key
connection point are currently being replaced, as seen at the
work site.
The stretch from the immediate left of 2nd Main Road, leading
to 1st Main Road, is not accessible for vehicles. On the other
side, the road is blocked from the Needs Supermarket junction
up to the end of the junction.
Officials have also marked further stretches of the road with drill
holes, indicating that the work will continue in phases up to
Bharath Hospital. Once one section is completed, work will
begin in the next, leading to temporary inconvenience for
residents and daily commuters.
This is not the first time such civic work has taken place in
Nanganallur. In recent years, similar sewage and stormwater

drain projects have been carried out in the area to prevent
future sewage issues.
Though residents are facing difficulties due to roadblocks and
restricted movement, many have expressed understanding and
support for the importance of this improvement work.
