The Highways Department has started renovation work in the
busy Thillaiganga Nagar subway to improve its damaged road
condition. The cement road had developed several potholes
over time, causing difficulty for motorists and two-wheeler-
riders using the stretch regularly.
For a long period, commuters and nearby residents have
noticed that the road inside the subway often remained wet due
to possible drainage pipe leakage or underground water
seepage. With the renovation work now under way, residents,
shop vendors and regular commuters are expecting that the
issue will also be rectified as part of the improvement works.
Officials have partially blocked portions of the subway and
started breaking the old concrete road for re-laying work. Since
the subway serves as an important link for Nanganallur,
Adambakkam, Puzhuthivakkam and Velachery, the entire
stretch cannot be closed for repairs. Hence, the work is being
carried out in phases while allowing vehicle movement through
the remaining portion of the subway.
According to officials, the renovation is progressing section by
section to avoid major traffic disruption.

Commuters are hopeful that the newly-laid road and repair
works will improve travel comfort and provide a long-term
solution to the water stagnation issue inside the subway.
