Renovation work at the Thillaiganga Nagar subway is
continuing steadily, with the Highways Department making
progress in phases to ensure that traffic movement is not
completely affected.
The first section of the subway has already been re-laid with a
new concrete surface. In the next stage, workers have started
fixing steel reinforcement bars before laying concrete on the
remaining section. This work is progressing on one side of the
subway, while commuters travelling from Alandur towards
Nanganallur are currently being allowed to use the middle
portion of the subway.
Officials said once the present section was completed and
opened for traffic, work will begin on the other side of the
subway. This phased approach is being followed as the subway
is an important link connecting Alandur, Nanganallur,
Adambakkam, Puzhuthivakkam and Velachery.
One of the long-standing concerns in the subway has been the
road surface remaining wet throughout the year due to water
leakage beneath the road. Many commuters had experienced
inconvenience, especially two-wheeler riders, because of the
continuously wet surface.
Officials have now confirmed that the ongoing renovation
includes rectifying the source of the water seepage. They
expressed confidence that once the work is completed, the
persistent water leakage problem will be resolved, providing a
dry, smoother and safer road for the thousands of motorists
who use the subway every day.
Residents, shopkeepers and regular commuters are hopeful
that the remaining work will be completed soon and that the
renovated subway will offer a lasting solution to the damaged
road surface and the long-standing water seepage issue.
