Married Superwomen, a Facebook community founded and led
by Nanganallur resident Malavikka Sridharan, celebrated its
10th anniversary Sunday, July 12, 2026. The online community,
which has grown to more than 13,000 members, has spent the
past decade supporting married women, helping them navigate
the challenges of marriage and promoting equality within
families.
The milestone celebration featured the release of a
commemorative book that documents the community’s inspiring
10-year journey of empowering married women and supporting
them through situations during their transition into marriage and
throughout their married life.
The event also highlighted the community’s vision of creating a
society where sons-in-law and daughters-in-law are treated
equally. As part of this mission, Married Superwomen honoured
men who have actively contributed towards building a gender-
discrimination-free society by presenting them with the
Humanist Awards.
The first copy of the book was released by chief guest, Mrs.
Punita Verma, a community builder and technology leader, and
was received by Mrs. Rebecca Victor, principal of a trust-run
school. The celebration was also attended by Dr. Roshini Rohit,
founder and director of R & R Hospital, as the special guest.
Ms. Malavikka Sridharan, along with the dignitaries, presented
the Humanist Awards to five gender equity champions – Mr.
Manoj Kumar, Mr. Karthick Subramaniam, Mr. Sharath
Socraties, Mr. Shiva Kumar and Mr. Elango – in recognition of
their efforts to promote fairness and equality in society.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Malavikka Sridharan said, “When
there’s a leakage in the pipe, do you increase the force of water
or fix the hole? Similarly, when there are instances of gender
discrimination, how does being the better gender solve
discrimination? How does grooming women alone achieve
gender equality? Instead, we must recognise and encourage
the right actions. By honouring men who support gender
equality, we inspire more people to build a discrimination-free
world.”
The 10th anniversary celebration concluded with a message
that gender equality can be achieved only when both men and
women work together with mutual respect and understanding.
