The Nanganallur Eastern Sector Residents’ Welfare
Association (NESRWA) celebrated the 80th Indian
Independence Day with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm
Saturday, August 15, near Green Mantra, 21st Street,
Nanganallur.
The programme began with a prayer song, followed by a
welcome address by secretary, Mr. Sriram Nilakantan.
President, Mr. P. Muralitharan, delivered the presidential
address.
The national flag was hoisted by Mr. V.V. Lakshminarayanan,
one of the founders of NESRWA and a retired executive
engineer, PWD. Residents and members gathered for the flag-
hoisting ceremony and joined in the Independence Day
celebrations.
As part of the programme, meritorious students were honoured
for their academic performance. As a special gesture of
encouragement, an underprivileged school student, who had
scored good marks in the board examination, was rewarded
with a cash prize. The gesture was appreciated as an
encouragement to support and motivate students to continue
their education and perform well.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by joint
treasurer, Mr. S. Venkataraman, followed by the national
anthem.
The association also conducted its 27th annual general body
meeting at Sri Sudharshan Mahal, 6th Main Road, later in the
day.
The meeting included the president’s welcome address,
secretary’s report, submission of accounts for 2025–26 by
treasurer, Mr. N. Geethakrishnan, discussion of members’
suggestions and grievances, and filling of vacancies in the
executive committee.
The AGM also included a vote of thanks by Subedar Major T.K.
Ananthasayanam, followed by the national anthem and
refreshments.
