A preparatory meeting ahead of the 2026 northeast monsoon
was held at the zone 12 Alandur Corporation office in Guindy
Friday, September 11, 2026, with representatives of various
residents’ associations and federations.
Members from different associations attended the meeting and
shared their suggestions, concerns and demands regarding
monsoon preparedness and flood-related issues in their
localities. Several major civic issues were also raised on behalf
of the Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations.
Zone 12 chairman, Mr. N. Chandran, was present at the
meeting and responded to the concerns raised by the residents
and association representatives.
Mr. S. Shankar and Mr. S. Premkumar from the Federation of
Nanganallur Welfare Associations, along with members of
various residents’ associations, participated in the meeting and
highlighted the issues faced by the residents.
Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has opened volunteer
registration for the 2026 northeast monsoon. Citizens, NGOs
and corporate organisations can register as volunteers to assist
in flood relief, rescue operations and emergency response
activities.
Volunteers can register through the ‘Namma Chennai’ mobile
application or through the official GCC Volunteer Registration
portal.
In the Namma Chennai app, users can log in with their mobile
number and OTP and select the ‘Volunteer Registration’ option
to submit their details.
