A special Pournami girivalam is being conducted atSarvamangala Sri Rajarajeswari Temple in Nanganallur every Full Moon day at 6 pm.

Devotees gather and perform girivalam around the temple through the Chinna Mada Veedhi. The reason for calling it girivalam is because Goddess Rajarajeswari is seated on the sacred Meru Giri (Meru Mountain) inside the temple. Devotees have to climb 16 steps to worship the Goddess. According to Sastras, going around the temple is considered equal to going around the sacred Meru itself. The sanctum sanctorum has been designed with the Sri Chakra Meru at the centre, where the Goddess is seated in divine form.Another special feature of this girivalam is that devotees sing Mahakavi Bharathiar’s famous ‘Om Sakthi Om’ song together while going around the temple. Devotees are invited to take part in the girivalam that starts exactly at 6 pm every Pournami day and receive the blessings of Sri Rajarajeswari Amman. The latest girivalam was held during Chitra Pournami, May 1, 2026,and the next girivalam will be May 31, 2026.For details: 99625 14134.
