Nanganallur Guruvayoorappan Temple celebrated the festival
of Vishu Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in a grand and traditional
manner. The temple was beautifully decorated with flowers and
lamps, creating a divine and festive atmosphere for devotees.
A special Vishu Kani arrangement was placed opposite the
Guruvayoorappan shrine. The setup included a mirror, through
which devotees could see the idol of Lord Guruvayoorappan
along with fruits, pulses and a decorated kalasam.
Devotees were guided in a queue system to have darshan of
both the deity and the Vishu Kani.
A large number of devotees gathered at the temple, especially
Malayalees from Nanganallur and the nearby areas, as well as
from different parts of the city. Many visited the temple early in
the morning to take part in this auspicious occasion.
As part of the Vishu tradition, devotees were first shown gold
and silver coins before entering the shrine, symbolising
prosperity and good fortune. After darshan, each devotee was
given a Re. 1 coin (Vishu kaineetam) as a Vishu gift, which is
considered a blessing and a traditional practice. Prasadham
was also distributed to all.
The Vishu Kani darshan was arranged from 5 am to 11.30 am.
In the morning, traditional chenda melam music added to the
festive spirit. In the evening, though Vishu Kani was not
displayed, special poojas and darshan were conducted.
Overall, the celebrations at Nanganallur Guruvayoorappan
Temple gave devotees a true Kerala festival experience.
Mrs. Revathi, joint secretary of the temple, welcomed everyone
to visit and experience the beauty of the celebrations. For a
