Truly wishing to serve society

| S VENKATESHWARAN |

Nanganallur-based Nalam Seya Virumbu Trust (NSVT) has
achieved a meaningful social milestone due to the continuous
follow-up and dedicated efforts of one of its office-bearers, Ms.
V. Latha.
Her perseverance has now brought positive results, helping
nursing students from Manipur who were struggling to pay their
education fees.
The initiative began during the trust’s first visit on February 22,
2025, to the CSI Rainy Hospital School of Nursing,
Washermanpet, Chennai.
The event day was sponsored by HelpAge India.
Dr. Kanakasabai, former dean of Madras Medical College, and
the trust representative were invited to address the students,
and Ms. Latha accompanied them. (The photographs are from
the February 2025 visit.)
During the meeting, while others were seated on the dais, Mrs.
Latha moved among the students and interacted personally
with them. Through these interactions, she learned that many
students from Manipur were unable to remit their term fees due
to the difficult situation prevailing in their home state.
As NSVT is a small organisation, it was not possible for the
trust to meet such a large financial requirement running into
several lakhs. Still, Ms. Latha did not stop her efforts. She
approached various institutions and also met officials from the
Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Department, though these attempts
did not bring immediate results.
Her continuous follow-up finally bore fruit when she approached
Agaram Foundation, run by actors Sivakumar and Suriya. She

personally met the representatives, explained the situation of
the students, and convinced them to extend support.
As a result, 18 nursing students from Manipur have now
received their first-term fees amounting to Rs. 6,30,000, which
was paid in December 2025. Agaram Foundation has also
taken the responsibility of supporting the students for the
remaining two years of study, with the fees to be paid in four
instalments.
Mr. V. Rama Rao, chairman of NSVT, appreciated the sincere
and tireless efforts of Ms. Latha and congratulated all those
who supported this noble cause. He stated that such initiatives
reflect the true spirit and mission of NSVT.
Ms. Latha continues to actively serve society through various
social organizations, including the Mylapore Lotus Blind
Welfare Trust of India.
This achievement stands as a proud moment for NSVT and a
strong example of how dedication and compassion can
transform lives notwithstanding whether you are from the deep
south, north, west or east.
